Shalom Center’s HOPE HUB Community Center Is Evolving To Better Help Individuals Move Toward Self-Sufficiency

Kenosha, WI (June 24, 2025) Shalom Center’s HOPE HUB Community Center is evolving to better meet the needs of our community by refining services that directly support individuals on their path to stability and independence. Moving forward, the Community Center will place a stronger emphasis on its role as a warming and cooling center during extreme weather, as well as on efforts to prevent and divert homelessness.
“Everything we do at Shalom Center is grounded in the goal of self-sufficiency,” said Esther Roberts, Executive Director. “This shift ensures that our resources are focused where they can have the greatest long-term impact for those we serve.”
The new operating hours for the HOPE HUB Community Center beginning July 1, 2025, will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During these service days, essential supports—including washers, dryers, and showers—will remain available for individuals experiencing homelessness. Staff will also be present to assist with referrals, basic needs, and supportive guidance. The Community Center will continue to serve as a vital warming and cooling center during periods of extreme weather. Diversion and Prevention screenings will be conducted daily by phone and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays by phone and in person.
“HOPE HUB will continue to be a place where people can access the help they need,” said Wendy Cross, Community Center Director. “We are still here for individuals and families who are seeking direction, support, and hope.”
About the Center: Shalom Center is a 501(c)3 in Kenosha County serving as the only homeless shelter, largest food pantry, and longest running nightly meal program. Shalom Center is a community resource that provides housing, food, guidance, and support to individuals and families in need across our community. Our mission is simple: serve the community through food, shelter and supportive ways. We believe that this mission will help realize a greater vision: self-sufficiency by maximizing the potential of people we serve. https://www.shalomcenter.org/
